Coming Soon…

March 11, 2009 - Leave a Response

Venetia Red took part in the; “If You Can We Can” Campaign up in Newcastle. This was where enterpeneurs from around the region gathered as part of the Enterpeneurs Forum. The event was used to showcase local talent with stalls set up with products to try. Aswell as getting business support, tips and networking.

There was also a fashion show as the main event for the evening. Venetia Red along with Rachel Powell Designs and Anh Mao of MoaCouture showcased work. Models displayed the clothes in a cat walk style show.

Venetia Red got very positive feedback with some potential sales from the show. The images will be uploaded shortly after recieved form the photographer Michael Kelly of Construct-photography.

I myself decided to record the show but being blonde forgot to turn the night mode on so it is very dark and not sure if ts worth putting on lol!

Hope your enjoying the blog?

Much love Leanne xxx

New Product – Men’s T-Shirts!!!

Grey T-Shirt

Grey T-Shirt

Venetia Red is also expanding its product base now and moving into mens wear as there has been alot of interest in the designs from both genders so we thought we should give the men a look in too! ;)

The designs are of a similar context however they are not as extravagant or embellished due to them being for men. They are available in three sizes; S, M and L and in three colours; Navy, Grey and Pink.

Now i am looking for stockists who will take on men’s designs aswell as womens. The majority of the Boutiques the garments are already placed are generally female orientated. I am looking to find a local stockist to begin with and then move out of the area as their price range detemines this. We need to source areas where spending is still high, like big cities!

New Stockists…

March 4, 2009 - Leave a Response

I am now currently looking to expand into other Boutiques nationally. I want to expand into Boutiques down south towards York, Leeds, Manchester and Liverpool. However i have found that sourcing stockists that are not local to me is alot harder to obtain.

After finding them and initiating contact it can be quite hard to chase them up! It is a difficult process and frustraiting at times however; this has given me valuable interpersonal skills and techniques on how to deal with stockists and their demands. This in turn will give me the confidence on how and what to do when or if i want to start up my own business after this placement ceases! :)

Any ideas of where the T-Shirts would work in any Boutiques known will be of a great help

Thanks

Leanne :)

Fifth

Fifth

In the Ouseborn Valley in Newcastle, three towering bridges, along with a well-balanced mix of nature, industrial might and cultural vibrancy, all make for a charming, understated, and beautiful quarter of the city. Here is where you will find fifth a contemporary gallery supporint local designers and makers!

Fifth is a new, original and forward-thinking gallery space dedicated solely exhibiting fashion and design, with a heavy emphasis on showcasing local talent. Designers are allocated an individual section in the gallery to display their work. Owner and founder Nina McDonnell believes;

“It’s a platform to support local designers,” says Nina, “You’ve got places like Brickworks and The Biscuit Factory, but nothing dedicated to solely fashion and design in Newcastle. We’re looking at changing that.”

Above is an images of the space where Venetia Red is displayed within the gallery along with other local talents.

Designer Marketplace

Designer Marketplace

Venetia Red took part in two Designer Maker Market’s at the town hall in Middlesbrough. The market showcased some the regions best talent. We had a great response with people purchasing items and wanting to know more about the label.

Here is some info on the Market itself;

The Designer Maker Market is a specialised showcase of some of the best creative talent in the region, works from both emerging and established artists and designers. Through a series of ‘mini-boutique’ like stalls, regional artists and designers have a chance at selling their products directly to the public. On sale there will be a diverse collection of high quality contemporary items from fashion garments and accessories to experimental art, textiles, ceramics, photography, jewellery, vintage and interior products. Most pieces will be bespoke items designed or made up by the stall holders themselves.

Stockists.

February 27, 2009 - Leave a Response

As part of running the label i have to source and secure stockists to place and sell the products through as a representative  for the brand. I initially decided to look locally for our initial stockist, i thought this would be a good idea to get some experience and feedback from a local business owner. I then decided to look at other areas within the North East as a way of branching out and starting to get barand awareness raised. After time spent making up contracts and order forms and researching local areas for successful boutiques i approached three stockists i was very nervous as this was a new concept and venture to take for me. However Venetia Red secured three regional stockists. The label is now selling in;

  1. Kate Fearnley Boutique in Middlesbrough.
  2. Cheeki Boutique in Darlington.
  3. Fifth Gallery/Shop in Newcastle.

 The products were determined  by the stock Rachel already had in the studio from when she was running the label herself. The materials  to which i could print and embellish the garments with was also limited as to what supplies were already in place but this was part of the challenge.

Welcome all! :)

My name is Leanne Hodgson, i am a local Textiles and Surface Design graduate from the North East of England. Upon my degree i specialised in printing, embroidery and elements of surface manipulation. I am the first graduate to be part of the Venetia Red label. The whole  concept of the label is to give graduates the opportunity to experience what it is like to run your own fashion label. I have to manage the label from an initial concept right through to the production of the garment, handling stockists, the promotion and expansion of the label.

Just to give you some information on the background of the business, it was originally a label ran by a local ethical fashion designer; Rachel Powell. Where she produced hand printed T-Shirts that were in local boutiques. She later persued other fashion lables and decided to run Venetia Red as a community project to help graduates learn about eneterprise and  experience what it is like to run your own business. She felt that she had gained alot of valuable experience and wanted to share her ups and downs with other graduates. To help mentor and guide graduates who were wanting to start up and run their own business through self employment.

In the beginning of the label there was another graduate involved and the idea was for us to combine skills and interests to produce these one off printed and embellished T-Shirts that are truely special. This partnership began in July 2008 but later ceased, and i took over the whole project on my own. It has been a challenge but i am learning so much and have gained skilld that will stay with me forever.

Hope all that was useful, more posts will follow;

Leanne :) x
